Dell XPS 16 Red laptop

The result is a smart-looking red dell laptop that has some new features that distinguish it from a run-of-the-mill Inspiron, including a backlit keyboard and a superfluous leather trim on the back of the lid (we're more positively predisposed to leather-clad wristrests).

Dell took a slightly different tact with its new XPS 16 laptops , but it looks like the company is slowly returning to its more accommodating ways by adding a new "high gloss" Crimson Red option to the XPS 16.

Processor

Intel's 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 CPU, coupled with 4GB of RAM and the 64-bit version of Windows Vista, makes for a powerful performer, even though it's in the middle of Dell's processor options for the system (you can trade down to a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo P8400 or up to a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo T9600). Any of these choices are more than adequate for typical multitasking use--Web surfing, office documents, media viewing, and so on, as well as photo and video editing. The 512MB ATI Radeon HD3670 is a good midrange choice for a multimedia system that will also handle light gaming chores. We got nearly 60 frames per second at 1,280x800-pixel resolution in Unreal Tournament 3, and that ATI card is included in the base configuration for the system.

Display

Thanks to the 1,920x1,080-pixel display on our review unit looks beautiful from straight on and has fantastic horizontal viewing angles so you can easily watch a Blu-ray movie with three or more of your friends sitting around you. the Studio XPS 16 is great for watching Blu-ray movies or other HD content (an optional Blu-ray optical drive is available). Both display types, however, have that edge-to-edge glass that seems to be all the rage these days.

The good:
Dell embraces the 16:9 aspect ratio display; upscale design with leather trim; backlit keyboard and edge-to-edge screen glass.

The bad:
The 1080p display costs extra; unimpressive battery life; new Studio XPS brand may get lost between the Inspiron, Studio, and XPS lines.

Types of Computer Viruses

.

In computing terminology, a ‘malicious code’ is a term used for computer viruses and programs designed to cause damage to computers. Other types of destructive PC worms are known as Internet virus including the examples like Worms and Trojans.

Outlined below is the description of different kinds of computer viruses:

Program/File Infector

Falling under the category of parasitic viruses, a program or file infector attempts to infect the files with extension code like .exe, .com, .drv, .dil, .bin, .ovl, and .sys. It gets activate along with the execution of executable file containing virus. The virus then loads itself into memory and replicates itself to other executable files when these files are opened or run.

The File Infector virus can destroy the content contained in files and cause irreversible damage to them.

Some file viruses have also operated as email worm and Trojan horse.

The best way to disinfect files infected by the file virus is to delete them and restore from back up.

Macro Computer Virus

A macro computer virus is a virus written in a language built into a software application such as a word processor. For example: Microsoft Office has the macro language built into its application. This is why most of its application programs are affected by macro computer virus.

Macro viruses are generally created using the macro recorder or Visual Basic for Applications. The applications that are the most prone to this antivirus are Word Documents, Excel Spreadsheets, Power Point Presentation, and Access Database. The virus infects templates of these documents and therefore every file that the user opens gets affected. Some common macro computer viruses are Auto Exec, Auto New, Auto Open, Auto Close, and Auto Exit.

The auto macros can be disabled by using the command ‘DisableAutoMacros’ in any macro that is written. Another way to remove it is by holding down the shift key while opening a document.

Multi-Partite Virus

It behaves in the same way as other computer viruses do. As the name signifies, they are sometimes more than one type. These are hybrids and are known as multi-partite virus.

Polymorphic Viruses

It is a kind of virus which produces different but operational copies for itself. Its attack is considered to be extremely dangerous as virus detectors will not be able to detect all instances of virus attacks simultaneously. And this is one of the reasons why it is known to be strategically designed.

Stealth Viruses

A stealth virus uses different mechanisms to prevent recognition by antivirus software. It tries to escape detection either by redirecting the disk head to head to read another sector or modifying the file size shown in the Directory listing.

Classification of some viruses is not possible as they are the file type viruses which start behaving as computer worms with an activation code.

I'm the Idiot Who Bought an HD-DVD PlayerA casualty of the format war tells all.

Illustration by Rob Donnelly. Click image to expand.Toshiba finally mercy-killed its HD-DVD format last week, ending a drawn-out fight with Sony's Blu-ray for high-definition disc supremacy. The format's demise has brought HD-DVD owners untold humiliation: reams of newspaper stories comparing them to the losers of yore who bought into Betamax and LaserDisc, the sad sight of desperate early adopters peddling brand-new players on Craigslist, and, worst of all, a Web site celebrating the similarities between HD-DVD and Hillary Clinton. I'm sick of the mockery and abuse. You see, I'm one of the morons who bought an HD-DVD player.

While I freely admit my moronitude, I still believe the HD-DVD owner is an unfairly maligned creature. It wasn't dumb to jump on the HD-DVD bandwagon: Toshiba's technology was cheaper and more consumer-friendly than Sony's. It was dumb, though, to assume that the forces of good would triumph. In the end, the fight between Sony and Toshiba played out like some kind of bizarro sports movie: The bad guy won at the end by clocking the lovable underdog in the crotch with a baseball bat.

In retrospect, it might've been smarter not to buy either player. But alas, I have a strange affliction that left me susceptible to HD-DVD's limited charms: I'm a gadget-loving cheapskate. The typical early adopter opens his wallet first and asks questions later; he doesn't care how many gigs of RAM are inside the MacBook Air, just that it slides into a Manila envelope. The HD-DVD player, however, appealed to a different group, electronics fetishists too imprudent to wait out a format war yet stingy enough to base their purchasing decisions entirely on price. Of course, this is an irrational position, like signing up for the inaugural commercial flight to the moon but only paying for a coach-class ticket. But that's how my brain works—I have a Creative Zen Micro, not an iPod.

Samsung to sell dual-standard DVD player

.

From Wikinews, the free news source you can write!

Samsung announced it will market DVD players capable of playing back both Sony's Blu-Ray and Toshiba's HD DVD next-generation optical storage formats, if the two camps refuse to compromise on a single format. Assuming development is successful, consumers could expect to see such a device on store shelves next year.

Blu-Ray and HD DVD are projected to be the successor formats for current DVDs. Samsung, while leaning towards the Blu-Ray camp, hopes it can cover both bases by distributing a player with dual-compatibility. While this means spending more in development to unify the two technologies and develop a cost-effective production method, dual compatibility may pay off for the company if the formats challenge each other as VHS and Betamax did twenty-five years ago. Despite the support for Blu-Ray, Samsung has also been supportive of a unified standard to avoid such costly competition.

HD DVD offers single layer capacity of 15GB, more than triple the size of standard single layer DVDs, and benefits from similarities with current DVDs, such as cheap production and compatibility with current DVD players. Blu-Ray can hold 23GB on its smallest single layer version, and is reported to have superior durability and interactivity over current DVD-based technology and HD-DVD. HD-DVD is currently promoted by Toshiba, NEC, Sanyo and Microsoft; while Blu-Ray's base of support is the Blu-Ray Disc Association, which is lead by Blu-Ray developers Sony and Philips. It is notable that Sony and Philips, who developed the Blu-Ray format, also competed against the Toshiba-designed SuperDisc DVD standard, which is the standard that is followed today.

The first Blu-Ray and HD DVD products are expected to start appearing in mainstream markets within the next year.

DVD Players

.

By : Pooja Lapasia

DVD players are now being widely given away with LCD TVs

as printers are given away with laptops and computers. The DVD player market has evolved over a period. They were hot selling at a point of time but now they have been replaced by other technologies like Divx players and Avi players. The DVD players now only play DVD format files which is a big letdown, as many other formats of files are been preferred.

The DVD quality is truly commendable but the divx file format takes up less disk space and provides quality at par with DVD. While one can store three DVD format movies in a DVD disk, six movies can be stored in the divx format. This almost doubles the number of movies one can carry and also relishing on the same quality.

If you burn an avi or a divx format file into the DVD format and burn in a disk, it would still not play in DVD players. The reason being it doesn’t detect the file. DVD players sold in India do not support this other file format viewing. So you are either restricted to buy original DVDs or VCDs for viewing. If you have home videos and they are in a different file format it is not possible to play them on a DVD player easily.

The DVD players are large in size and occupy a considerable space. The portable divx players on the other hand are more feasible and also come with a LCD screen display. The DVD players are a good investment for someone who likes to watch movies on original DVDs. Thus the player won’t cause any damage to your DVD collection and will provide the best output.

DVD Players have been improvised; the best DVD players in the market now come with USB ports and memory card slots. They help you connect your flash-based pen drives directly onto the DVD player and listen to your favourite music instantly. There are many low price DVD players now available, as their prices have been dipped by the on going competition from other devices.

You can buy DVD players online at popular online shopping based websites. These sites will give you a through review of a DVD player and also give you comparison of products across brands. You can buy the one that suits your needs and lives up to your budget.

Watch DVD Movies for Free Like Scary Movie 3

.

By : Richard Cunningham

Yes, with the kind of technology that we have right now, you can now watch DVD movies for free like Scary Movie 3! There are so many means as to how you can actually do this, but what's important to remember is that you can find it all right on the internet. All you have to do is to know what you are looking for and you can just key it all down on your favorite search engine
.

What's more is that the different ways to watch DVD movies for free are, in any case, very easy to do. You can either go to online streaming sites to directly watch it straight from the internet, or you could download it. And then there are all those methods that go in between, such as streaming sites that actually allow you to download a movie while watching it online.

With so many people joining the popular trend of the freeware industry of the internet, you can watch DVD movies for free because these people share what they have with the rest of the world. All you have to do is to enjoy them and give a little feedback to know that they are being appreciated, because this is what freeware is all about. Perhaps you can even share one of your own movies, and that can help the online community a lot. But if you're not good at that you can support online freeware communities in so many ways and the best way to do this is to do what you're supposed to do and watch DVD movies for free.

If you enjoyed the first two releases of the Scary Movie series, you should not forget to watch Scary Movie 3. Among the three part series, the last one is probably the most popular one before the recent one was released.

The Scary Movie series is based off a variety of plots revolving around a blonde girl and her friends who together build a series of comic misadventures brought about the sewing of different plots from many famous movies during its time that is turned into a funny parody. Usually these parodies include the funny caricature of characters of the movies that they parodied or a change in the script of a popular scene in that movie and making it a funny one. As a matter of fact, these individually parodied movies are actually mixed and matched into one funny plot where the crazy caricatured characters are made to relate to make up one funny movie.

This would be a spoiler if you didn't watch Scary Movie 3 yet, but the story is actually about the invasion of aliens that started out with crop circle being formed one night and discovered in the next morning (from the movie Signs). This problem is connected "or not so connected" with the plot about a mysterious video that reveals secrets about a girl that kills those who watch it seven days after it was watched (from the movie The Ring). Together, it turns out to be one funny movie. So watch Scary Movie 3, you're sure to enjoy it.
